When I did my nursing training, I had to complete a two-week practical placement in a mental health facility.

I was assigned to the high-security lock up ward where patients would stay who had a history of self-harm and suicide attempts, or were a danger to others.

I met a patient there, a young girl in her 20’s, who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and had taken several attempts on her life.

During our chats I discovered she was a Christian as well, and I felt strongly to give her a CD of Integrity Music’s Scripture Memory Songs on Renewing the Mind, and encouraged her to play it in her room as much as possible.

Some of the scriptures included 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind”, and Phillipians 4:8, “Whatever things are true, noble, just…meditate on these things.”

Soon after I have the CD to her, my placement ended and I never returned to the hospital.

One Sunday about a month later, I was at the church I attended, and this same girl came running up to me!

“Emily!” she said, “I had to come and find you! I did what you said and listened to that CD in my room, all day every day, and I started singing along with the songs over and over, and GUESS WHAT?! My doctors said I don’t need medication any more and they discharged me!”

This girl’s mind – her thought patterns, strongholds of fear and demonic influence, and diagnosed “chemical imbalances” had been TRANSFORMED by her thinking on, meditating on, and most importantly, giving VOICE to the Word of God!

Her mind had been completely renovated!

She later informed me that she’d decided to go to University and study to become a nurse.

Romans 12:2 tells us not to be conformed to this world’s pattern of thinking, but to be TRANSFORMED (completely changed into a different being) – and the way we are transformed is by renewing, or renovating, our mind.

If we will take the Word of God and PUT IT IN OUR MOUTH, say what He says about us, agree with Him, align our mouth with Him, ONLY say what He says, and CONTINUE to say what He says, the Word will DO THE WORK.

It will TRANSFORM us from the inside out.

The Word will renovate and replace the crumbling, decaying, rotten thoughts and mindsets we have about ourselves and the result will be that we SEE ourselves transformed – SEE ourselves healed, SEE ourselves delivered, SEE ourselves free of depression, anxiety, fear, unforgiveness.
The Word WILL BECOME FLESH. (John 1:14)
