When a bricklayer builds a brick house, he will use a tool called a “plumb line”, which is a piece of string with a weight attached to the bottom.

The plumb line hangs in a perfectly straight vertical line and using the plumb line as a guide, the bricklayer can ensure every brick he lays is perfectly straight and aligned. 🧱

The end result is a structure that is straight, smooth and solid. 🏠

God knew the tumultuous times we, His church, would find ourselves in and has graciously given us a never-changing, never-deviating, always-stable, always-reliable plumb line for truth: His written Word. 📖

These days we are presented with countless versions of “truth”, but we have to measure EVERYTHING up against, “Ok, but what does GOD’S WORD say about it?” 🤔📖

God tells us to prove (test, examine) ALL THINGS, then hold fast to what is good and reject what is evil. (1 Thessalonians 5:21-22)

It doesn’t matter if it’s broadcast on every channel, endorsed by every celebrity, posted on every social media feed, announced from every political platform or even preached from every pulpit, if it doesn’t exactly line up with the plumb line truth of God’s Word, it’s a lie. 🙅🏻‍♀️

We even have to measure all those ideas, beliefs and doctrines we’ve held onto for so long against the Word of God because sometimes, they’re actually just traditions of men and and not Biblical truth! 🤷🏼‍♀️

God’s Word doesn’t change or adjust to accommodate societal norms, culture or anyone’s belief systems. It is eternal and settled FOREVER. (1 Peter 1:25, Psalm 119:89)

Clearly then, it’s VITAL that we equip ourselves with and learn how to use the plumbline of truth. 📖

How?

By being disciples and students of the Word. We can never know what truth is unless we commit ourselves to read, listen to, meditate on and speak it to become intimately familiar with the only source of truth. 📖

By allowing ourselves to continually be led by the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of truth guides us into ALL truth and teaches us ALL things. The Spirit of God NEVER contradicts the Word of God.

He will help us rightly divide the Word and instantly recognise the deviations, deceptions and contradictions as soon as they show up. (John 16:13) 🧐

By being bold enough to stand for truth. Even if it means being unpopular or even hated, let’s not ever adjust our beliefs to accommodate the world’s philosophy or popular opinion. Instead, let’s stand for righteousness and holiness and speak the TRUTH in love. (Ephesians 4:15)❤️

When we do this, not only will we will function effectively as the Body of Christ but we will also be solid, unshakable and unmoveable because our foundation is built on the TRUTH of God’s Word. (Matthew 7:24) 💪🏼📖 #faithtalks
